A B5 reboot is in the works. If anyone can do this right, it’s J. Michael Straczynski. I want more Babylon 5. I hope it works out.

I have concerns. Yes, JMS’s involvement is a great sign, but the Lando/G’Kar dynamic was lightning in a bottle. Whoever gets cast in those roles will have big shoes to fill.

Well, really it has to manage to tell a different story. JMS has been talking about it on Twitter all day. Here’s his more detailed Facebook post.

I was an enormous fan of Babylon 5 - even going to a UK convention attended by JMS and bunch of the stars back in the day. But I am a little concerned about this - mostly because of the network it'll be going to. The CW does not seem to be a network that does "hard" SF. With their massive reliance on the Arrowverse, and before that things like Supernatural, it seems to be out of kilter with the kind of stories that B5 was telling. Go ahead and reimagine and retool the show, but don't just fill it with hot twenty-somethings. Maybe I'm being unfair - I don't watch any of those Greg Berlanti shows - but they seem made as much to a formula as CBS procedurals are. A different formula, but definitely a formula.

Having now enjoyed shows like The Expanse and Picard, I want something a bit meatier. I've watched the first couple of episodes of Foundation on Apple TV+ and that certainly has the makings of something good. Although I've found some of the scripts a little bland so far, it's telling an interesting story and seems to be prepared to go off into different and unexpected directions. I fear for what a Network TV version of B5 ends up as.

Randomly, I just started reading Together We Will Go, JMS's recently published novel. I can honestly say I have *no* idea where that is going!

I bought the audiobook, but had to stop. Maybe I’ll pick it up again later, and maybe the tone changes, but the story really glorifies/celebrates suicide as if it is some form of hip, cool act, and having dealt with a suicide in my family, I was very uncomfortable with it, and wrote to him to tell him so.

His autobiography, on the other hand, is outstanding.

I share your unease Kevin. I'll stick with it to see where it goes though. Happy to give you a yes/no on whether it's worth picking up again, with once I've finished it.

I've not read his autobiography so will look for it.
