An X/Twitter post by the alum didn't cite specific people, but THR noted a sketch from Ryan Gosling's hosting gig with Ashley Padilla where it happened a few times... "Lorne doesn’t like when the cast breaks. Even if the audience laughs, it doesn’t work for the sketch.” Not that it's never happened to Nealon personally:

Of course, as the HR article acknowledges, the particular sketch, they mentioned was intentionally designed by the writers to make those two actors break so it’s not really a good example of what Nealon is talking about. I do think the point holds though, as they’ve been breaking more and more on that show over the last few years and while occasionally it adds to the pleasure, its really the kind of thing that is more effective when it’s rare.

Perhaps Nealon is actually speaking for Lorne, though that seems unlikely as he’s never really needed third parties to get his message across to his cast. I suspect that Michael has changed his views about breaking, particularly since the Beavis and Butthead sketch, which got so much attention and may have convinced him that when the cast breaks it signals to the audience that the sketch is particularly funny, And becomes a signal to traditional and social media that the sketch should be shared and commented on.

Back when Jimmy Fallon was in the cast and broke all the time, I heard an interview with David Spade where he said it was considered unprofessional and the cast should get it out of their system during rehearsals. In the Gosling show it was clear the performers were getting lines they had never seen before.
