Very sad. I did not realize he had been ill, but all of the stories say he had been dealing with something (unspecified) for a long time.

I can't remember if we have discussed this here, but for other reasons I was looking into the origins of the Top Ten. This is the first one (1985; I guess that is Steve Jordan coming in late and kind of lame on the drum roll; they had not yet worked out the presentation):

Several hands claim or are given credit for coming up with the idea, but it does seem that Curran was the one who wrote the first list. Here is one good summary of the various origin stories:
