Disagree. Assuming “value” here refers to contribution to the show, not to the real world beyond the show (SNL casting decisions won’t do much to fight the Russian Invader, or US domestic terrorists).

As the article notes, last year SNL was the highest rated Entertainment show on television in The Demo. The first three cast members listed as leaving here are a big part of that. For me, I think Bryant will be the most significant loss, but unlike some here, I also really like McKinnon, and will miss her in the show. I don’t really get Davidson’s appeal, but I know from listening to the younger people I know that often he is the only person on SNL that many young adults care about.

Not that I am predicting a necessary decline in the ratings. As also noted, they have a super large cast, and could probably be fine even without adding anyone. I really like Heidi Garner, Chloe Fineman and Bowen Yang, and presumably this leaves more room for them.

Of course if you don’t like or watch the show these losses won’t impact you much, but I think it is an impact on the large number of young adults who do.
