I guess this is a comment on what US networks think about soccer and how valuable a property it is for them. The two teams are Liverpool and Manchester City. They are currently ranked first and second in the Premier League and the team in third is unlikely to catch either. A couple of weeks ago they played a league game against each other that aired on USA as NBC paid a ton of money for Premier League rights. A week later the two played in an FA Cup semifinal and that was streamed on ESPN+. Now they are both semi finalists in the UEFA Champions League and the semifinal games are on CBS tomorrow and Wednesday. So if they both win they’ll play each other a third time and it will be on CBS.

I still remember a visit to New York in '00s which clashed with the North London Derby - Arsenal v Spurs. I had to do a fair bit of searching to find a bar that was showing the game live and was open at 7.30am since it was a 12.30pm k/o in the UK! It being New York, there was such an establishment. Today that match would be on main NBC.

So at the weekend my football/soccer-loving aunt in New York was able to watch Arsenal v Man Utd on NBC, and that it comes with an actually really good commentary team in Arlo White (ex-BBC) and Lee Dixon (former Arsenal/England and still working for ITV in on FA Cup and England fixtures in the UK).

BTW The reverse is essentially true in the UK with US sport, although it's nearly all on subscription sports channels. The only free-to-air games I can think of are the Superbowl and a couple of the London NFL games which are on the BBC. The rest of the Beeb's NFL coverage is reduced to highlights. Even random live US college lacrosse is buried away somewhere on a channel here.

Outside of the NFL it’s getting tough to find major league team sports on OTA TV. The NBA has some games on ABC, ABC has a few NHL games between early February and the end of the season, and FOX has a baseball game on Saturday between late May and early July. Then there will be some playoff games aired.

NBC will show the Premier League late game most Saturdays OTA, CBS has been showing some knockout Champions League games (the others are on Peacock+), ABC and FOX show some MLS games, and the World Cup tournament games will be split between FOX and FS1. It’s become a lot easier to turn on the TV and find soccer than the other sports.

Arlo, Lee, and Graeme Le Saux seem to get the marquee matchup each week whether it’s on NBC, USA, or Peacock. I’ve been hearing a lot more from Peter Drury and Jim Proudfoot recently.

With the new NHL deal, the complete Stanley Cup Final series will be on American broadcast television for the first time (even years only; TNT gets the odds).

Meanwhile, seeing Euro-football scheduled for weekday afternoons on CBS, I can only imagine how those of us concerned with the goings-on in Oakdale and/or Springfield would’ve reacted to that being done 15-20 years ago….

But I assume it won't be conflicting with the goings on in Genoa City.

I assume CBS reschedules Y&R&B&B for the left coast, given the noon kickoff.

Sort of.  They're preempted for the West Coast and "some Mountain stations".  Stations have the option of recording the EDT feeds and making good in the overnight hours.

If the presentation doesn't improve, it's not gonna matter.

I've always felt that if I notice the directing during live action, it's a bad broadcast. Whoever's been directing the NHL games on ABC loves to switch shots, which makes it hard for a long-time viewer to follow the puck. We can only hope that improves when playoff coverage starts.

Meanwhile given that some affils air the Marketplace of America in the afternoon, they've just schedule repeats of LMAD today. And tomorrow. And Friday.

Both Peter Drury and Jim Proudfoot are decent. Jim used to do our radio commentaries for Premier League coverage at Absolute Radio, while I was working there, when we had the rights for a few seasons. A nice chap.
