I went to see the original in a theater with 3-D glasses because I thought it was going to be the equivalent of seeing King Kong when it first came out. I remember being underwhelmed. It always felt strange to me to see other people get obsessed about the movie, going so far as to do things like learn Nav’i. I have no interest in the sequels.

Dave - of course he does.  I think he views this as his "Star Wars" (so, helpful that the property is now at Disney, I guess...)

I only saw the original "Avatar" because it was nominated for Best Picture and it was the first film in the marathon.  That was followed by "Disney/Pixar's Up" - I felt more in the first 10 minutes of "Up" than I did for the entire runtime of "Avatar".
