It’s being reported by Baltimore media online that there was no gun and no threats of extortion and any reports to the contrary care erroneous

Am I smelling a Jussie Smollett-ish case down the road here?     B

It feels more like the media got this wrong instead of an individual or the production company getting it wrong. A drugged up unarmed street vendor became belligerent when filming on his street cut into is profits. Social media then enhanced the story with violence, extortion, and guns. Because there are no fact-checkers in the payroll anymore, the media ran with what social media was saying… conservative media REALLY ran with it, because they like painting Baltimore as a gun-crazy city. Many even falsely listed David Simon as a producer on the series. His responses on Twitter have been fun to read.

My reading of the Local Press on this situation suggests the police are the ones who initially released the more exaggerated reports, based on preliminary interviews that had not been checked out. These were then reported by traditional and social media. A few days later, after they did check out initial allegations, police released the modified, less lurid report. I would blame the police for releasing unsubstantiated reports too early in the investigation.
