Of the wide palette of entertainment media properties owned by Penske (Variety, the Hollywood Reporter, Rolling Stone, Billboard), Hasan Minhaj chose to go after Deadline, the website founded by the late Nikki Finke, in his Spirit Awards monologue Saturday, calling them a "dogs--t clickbait" site without giving examples (personally, Deadline is much milder these days than when  Nikki was around):

Elsewhere in the monologue, Minhaj went after IFC for dumping the Spirit Awards after many years of telecasting the show (they were on YouTube this year, and never mind that the home of "2.5 Men" and "That 70s Show" reruns, the former Independent Film Channel, is down to "Documentary Now!", "Sherman's Showcase" and maybe "Baroness Von Sketch Show" when it comes to original programs) and the ending of "Tar" (no spoilers here). You won't hear those kinds of jokes on the Oscars.

[regrettable point of order: "Baroness Von Sketch Show" is in the rear-view mirror after five seasons]

No surprise, considering that Meredith MacNeill's doing "Pretty Hard Cases" for the CBC and Amazon's Freevee.

In addition, seems that Minhaj started his monologue by saying that award shows are dead and nobody has seen the nominated films.  The big winner of the day was that surprise $100M grosser "Everything Everywhere All at Once" (attacked by Bill Maher Friday night--yes, Kevin, I know what he eats) and one of the TV winners was the star of that sitcom produced by those bulwarks of indieness Warner Bros. Discovery and Disney on America's Broadcasting Company (dah DAH da dah!).

The most appropriate thing one can say about this clown show is that they hold them in an actual circus tent.
