They only had 20 years to get it prepared.

I'm more curious to know if a) the tribute will be staged at Television City on the 'Bob Barker Stage' or on TPIR's new stage in Glendale, and b) who's writing this thing, what with the strike and all? Plus, wouldn't Drew & others have to cross the picket line to make the special (assuming it wasn't already in the can)?

The current SAG-AFTRA strike doesn't cover game shows, and TPIR doesn't use WGA writers, so there are no picket lines to cross.

TPIR is already in production for the new season at their new studio, so everything is already set up over there. No chance of them spending the money to go back to Television City for a special. (To most viewers, all studios look the same on the inside anyway.)

I watched it last night.  It was sweet and to the point, plus they included footage of Barker being manhandled by Samoan contestants, which was the absolute best.

It was difficult to tell, but from what I could see in the special, it looks like the Stage 33 set was more-or-less recreated in Glendale.  I'm surprised they didn't use the move as an opportunity to update more of the set - but I guess we'll see when the new season starts.

The big change seems to be that there's no more stage--Contestants' Row is now level with the set, which is similar to most foreign versions of the show.  If that means that we'll get more people running up to Drew immediately when called, we'll see.

And the new studio (which is actually divided in half--"Let's Make a Deal"'s set is on the other end) will seat about 100 less than Studio 33.  That means something because pre-pandemic, they were doing a lot of paid seatholders because outside of tourist season they don't draw full houses every taping like they did in the Barker days.

Interesting - so that stage is going to host both LMAD and TPIR...what about "Real Time" (when it comes back from strike hiatus)?

From pictures I've seen from a very knowledgeable person on FB (I know), "Real Time" has been from another studio at TV City during the pandemic and the set is still up in that studio. Since it's going to be another year now before the remodeling actually starts, they could come back after the strikes--although Maher's statements lately about the strikes makes me wonder if any WGA member will want to work for him now.  (In the last WGA strikes, he kept going with a monologue but no mid-show bit, "New Rules" or closing commentary, dropped the cold opening completely and moved the "Overtime" viewer Q&A into the main show with the title "Blogga Please.")   I guess this time he realized he needed writers, although the decision also could've been made by Daddy Zaslav.

And I personally wonder if I will ever come back to Maher after the strikes.  Even if he hates Trump, God has he really become more squirelly than before in the last few years.
