He's certainly given the impression in past interviews that he doesn't
treat the job as life and death. I think I remember a phrase like
"playing 'Hangman' for big money."

Depending on how quickly he left KNBC after the nighttime version
started, that's still a pretty long window. There's a good six years
between the start of the syndicated show (1983) and when taping moved
to CBS Television City to accommodate the daytime version's network
switch (1989).
