Creator David Milch is battling Alzheimer’s and lost nearly everything through a severe gambling addiction.

Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln...

Nothing related to television can make me happier than a Deadwood finale film (well, maybe the two 2-hour films we were once promised, sepite the protestations of Mrs. Milch in the linked article, but I m not greedy). Milch’s Condition is sad, yet it would have been easy to predict an even more dismal and painful finale for his personal story, so maybe that’s not so bad either.

My understanding was that Deadwood ended so abruptly not so much because of the financial disputes, but because Milch impulsively and narcissistically insisted on starting on “John” which he was reported to believe was some kind of transcendent masterpiece. I would be relieved to get confirmation of this.

to TV or not TV
Milch was a first rate talk show guest, first with Tom Snyder, and then with (12 step buddy) Craig Ferguson. It's the kind of voice we may never hear again on TV.

A Milch article from the New Yorker (more pop-ups than I normally tolerate from a website, but I wanted to read the article). Sad that his mind is slipping away. Sadder that he’s aware of it happening. But I’m eagerly anticipating the movie this weekend.

Watched the movie.

David Milch can write. That his brilliant mind is now deteriorating has literally moved me to tears.

I mean, that was indeed f*cking Shakespeare.

I know Game of Thrones has been all the rage for a while now, and fans have been conflicted about its final season. But I suspect, and I could be wrong, that every fan of Deadwood will be satisfied by this finale. The only possible quibble would be that it wasn’t completely historically accurate, but neither was the series itself. It was exactly what it was supposed to be.
