Trevor leaves Thursday night, with new shows starting up again on Jan. 17--announced as guest hosts so far are Al Franken, Kal Penn, Sarah Silverman, Hasan Minhaj, Chelsea Handler, D.L. Hughley, Leslie Jones, John Leguizamo, Wanda Sykes and Marlon Wayans (no exact dates announced):

Hughley briefly had a show on CNN on Saturday nights that nobody watched but I quite enjoyed. It was a bit more serious in tone than Daily Show, but he could easily do well replacing Noah.

I believe D.L. Hughley also circled around the desk for The Late Late Show at least once (between the Craigs).

Deadline (and Vulture) are claiming a permanent host is expected to start in fall 2023.


With that much of a lead, I wouldn't be surprised if the show ends up in the same place as Conan's HBOMax program.

Of these, Leslie Jones seems a good permanent choice to me. I may be underestimating her current price, but I am thinking it would fit into what has to be a dramatically reduced Host salary budget going forward.
