This must be a sad mental health story. Sanchez has a job that pays him a huge amount of money for relatively few days of work and he puts it all at risk over nothing. He’s not a top level analyst so there’s no guarantee keeps his job.

Yeah, it’s sad all around. I’ve been following this story as it developed today -At first, it seemed like maybe Sanchez had been the victim of some drunk fans or something, But now it seems like he was more of the instigator.

I followed his career in college pretty closely, and then of course into the NFL where he was a disappointment on the way had some bright spots, but he Under performed. And then he invented himself as a colored commentator I agree he’s not one of the best, but his name still meant something to Fox and frankly there are worse commentators and Mark Sanchez is working right now. As you say all, I only had a pretty soft landing and a sweet deal at least from the outside. He did play a sport known for its high risk of head injury and risk for impulsive, violent self-destructive behavior so who knows. There are enough mediocre former players with recognizable names would love to take his place, so it does seem unlikely that his future will include working NFL games, hopefully he’ll be able to get his life together.

The Athletic  is reporting that Brady Quinn, former Notre Dame quarterback, and current Fox analyst. I guess he mostly covers college games will take the place of Mark Sanchez tomorrow. No word on arrangements for the rest of the season.

The more I read about the current reporting the more this sounds like several situations I’ve observed in various positions I’ve had in the past where a person is charged with misdemeanors, even though felonies are possible, and maybe even indicated as leverage to get them to accept alcohol or drug treatment. This smells to me like what’s happening with Mark Sanchez and if he’s able to agree to treatment and complete it likely the misdemeanor charges will stick and they will arrange something with little or no prison time, but if he does not satisfactory complete the treatment then charges will be upgraded, perhaps a felony and he will be facing A prison term term of more than one year. If that’s what’s happening, I suppose some will complain that this is a celebrities getting special treatment, but I’ve definitely seen regular people get the same kind of treatment at least in California.

I think if they charged him with felonies they would have to deal with bail and bringing Sanchez back to Indiana for court appearances. With misdemeanors they can just release him and negotiate a plea deal.
