Colbert was brutal on Les Moonves. Wonder what he will say about Tyson, if the charges are substantiated?

Neil DeGrasse Tyson investigated by Fox, NatGeo Networks

NEW YORK (AP) - Renowned astrophysicist Neil deGrasseTyson will be investigated by Fox and National Geographic Networks after allegations of sexual misconduct were leveled against him.
Patheos.com published accounts from two women who say that Tyson behaved in a sexually inappropriate manner with them. Tyson was host of "Cosmos: Possible Worlds" on Fox in 2014 and a new edition of the series was to air on National Geographic next year.
In a statement the producers of "Cosmos" said: "The credo at the heart of 'Cosmos' is to follow the evidence wherever it leads. The producers of 'Cosmos' can do no less in this situation."
They said they will conduct a thorough investigation. Meanwhile Fox and National Geographic say they only recently learned of the allegations and were reviewing the allegations.
Besides numerous TV appearances, Tyson is also the director of the Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City.

Patheos? Is there a credible source publishing these accounts or speaking to the alleged victims? Or is everybody doing what the AP did and just referencing a non-credible website?

NDT should not be immune from the consequences of his actions of course, and his employers and partners have a duty to investigate these charges. I suggest waiting for the results of those investigations before putting too much weight on these reports in Patheos.

1. The claims made by the two women in the piece cited here are relatively mild; why not reference the far more serious claim, also published on Patheos, from a woman says he raped her when they were in n graduate school? This was published 3 weeks ago, and her claims have been public for several years. I suspect the reason is that her claim so far has not been supported anywhere near as well as those against the other well known men of the metoo era. NDT was on Colbert ( in a taped piece) just this week; if Colbert or CBS judged the rape allegations had any credibility it seems they would not have used him.

2. Pathos is not a news site, it is a blog of religious opinion. It has some interesting stuff, and some nonsense. Citing it as a source is a little like citing Wikipedia as a source. It may be accurate, but it easily may not. In this case blogger David Gee at Patheos seems to be making quite an effort to get mileage out of charges that have been around a long time without getting much support, even in the Red hot heat of metoo. Maybe he knows something nobody else does, but I can think of other explanations too.

3. I wonder what makes you say Colbert was “brutal” on Monves? I was critical of him for going relatively easy, and making the bare minimum comment he could. If a credible investigation ever reports a clear indication that NDT raped a woman, I think you can be pretty sure that Colbert’s comments will be at least as tough on him as he was on Monves - but that’s a low bar.

Here's the New York Times article
Maybe brutal is overstating it, but he was not relatively easy. The link has a clip of Colbert's monologue. There was also desk chat that night and Colbert was again critical of Moonves when he talked about Vinnie Favale getting the boot.

I remember the night well. I think you have to compare his treatment of his boss with how he treated the other very powerful men who have had similar scandals recently, and I think in that context he was far from brutal, and close to the least he could do.

Please don’t use the word “reported” along with Buzzfeed like that.

Tyson will return to TV after sex misconduct probe

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson will return to the air on two TV shows that had been put on hold for a sexual misconduct investigation.
The National Geographic Channel said in a statement Friday that Tyson's "StarTalk" will return to the air in April with the 13 episodes that remain in the season.
The statement says Tyson's other show, "Cosmos," will return on National Geographic TV and Fox at a date to be determined.
Late last November, National Geographic Networks and Fox said they would examine reports that Tyson behaved in a sexually inappropriate manner toward two women. Friday's statement did not address the complaints or investigation.
A message with a representative seeking from Tyson wasn't immediately returned.
Tyson said in December that he denied the allegations and welcomed the investigation.

Tyson keeps museum post after sexual misconduct probe

NEW YORK (AP) - Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson will keep his job as head of the Hayden Planetarium at New York's American Museum of Natural History after the museum concluded its investigation into sexual misconduct accusations against him.

A museum spokesman said in a statement Thursday that based on the results of the investigation, Tyson "remains an employee and director of the Hayden Planetarium."

The statement said museum officials would not comment further "because this is a confidential personnel matter."

Tyson was accused of behaving inappropriately with two women in an article published in November on the website Patheos.

Fox Broadcasting and National Geographic cleared Tyson to return to the air on his television series, "StarTalk" and "Cosmos" after investigating the same allegations.

A representative for Tyson did not respond to an email seeking comment Saturday.

Tyson didn't make any new friends earlier today (8/04) when, on the tweetybox (link), he compared the number of victims in this weekend's mass shootings in Texas and Ohio to those of other causes of death in a 48-hour period.
