I am no fan of Fallon's, but this pretentious piece of claptrap from Current Affairs is the sort of thing that gives the left a bad name:

By the way, Brit Jon Greenaway, Cavett never was number one in late-night. Carson yukking it up with Rickles beat Cavett interviewing James Baldwin every night.

Greenaway wants to pretend a late night talk show in 2026 is something that it clearly isn’t. This week is new shows for the Tonight Show. NBC has western playoff games starting at 10:30 in the east followed by local news and then the Tonight Show starting around 3 AM. If they cared at all about their TV ratings they would show reruns.

One strong memory I have of Cavett is when he had Tony Curtis as a guest. He asked Curtis about the craft of acting. Curtis’s face lit up and with great enthusiasm he he talked at length about acting. It was one of the dullest things I ever saw on TV and Cavett just let him go on and on.

In those years they didn't have social media to compete with. It was mainly print media, which could be just as verbose and dull.    B
