ABC sent out a press release Monday asking stations to prepare for Jimmy Kimmel live to be No. 1 in late night ratings. I posted part of it below..

In Googling late night ratings, I found an article that said The Tonight Show recently had its fourth lowest rated show.
Fallon is flirting with a six-figure viewing audience. Colbert is double that and Kimmel is almost double that.

Good afternoon,

Jimmy Kimmel Live is close to securing the #1 spot in late night and we are asking for help promote the show on social!

Please confirm that your station’s social media accounts follow the show. To help support, you can re-tweet a funny clip, share a post, or mention who appears on the show each night.

I used to read the blog of Paul Harris, a now retired St Louis talk radio host. When the late night talk shows came back on the air during last spring or early summer Harris noted that Kimmel had an advantage because he came up in radio. He was used to doing his comedy without a live audience and he wouldn't be thrown off by not having a theater to work in.

Assuming that the ABC PR is correct, what happened with Colbert and Kimmel? The article you linked from only three weeks ago still had Colbert out front by 250k.

I wonder if Colbert is scheduled to be dark or if there is going to be a schedule disruption that hurts Colbert or helps Kimmel.

Colbert is doing a live post-Super Bowl show Sunday night.  Back in 2016, he was the direct post-game attraction and most people agreed that it was a weak effort--which is why the direct post-game attraction is the series premiere of Queen Latifah's reboot of "The Equalizer"--the first time in years a new series premiere has been the post-game attraction since--the last time CBS had the Big Game in 2019, with the premiere of the bomb talent show "The World's Best" with British Jimmy and ViacomCBS family members Drew Barrymore and RuPaul.  (In the Great White North, CTV is following the Big Game with the premiere of a homegrown drama series, "Holmes Family Effect"--last year it was "The Masked Singer" and the year before that an OTA edition of sister channel TSN's "SC with Jay & Dan"--that would be "SportsCentre"--dah da dah, dah da dah--Disney owns part of TSN).

Tiffany Haddish will be a part of two Colbert episodes, tonight (2/04) and Sunday...

it apparently slipped past me back in December that "Kids Say The Darndest Things" moved back to that same net after getting canned at ABC...  https://deadline.com/2020/12/kids-say-the-darndest-things-moves-back-cbs-abc-cancellation-1234658318/ (link)

No word on Kimmel next week (yet) from Sue T... Latifah features in Monday's (2/08) Colbert, with John Oliver (they share not only NYC as home base, but director Jim Hoskinson as well) listed for Tues. (9)...

I was hoping I'd misread that. She barely had enough material for one segment tonight, let alone multiple panels. (The Macbeth scene was embarrassing.) I predict one of those "Here are a series of lobby cards for movies 'we were in' together" pre-tapes.

I'd have thought that, following a big event like this, they'd want at least one big name, but Haddish, who would push her way to the front to be at the opening of an envelope, is sort of the antithesis of that.

Dan O'Toole at TSN has been cut. Bell Media, which owns TSN, is going through some major head count decapitation this week.  Most behind the camera or mic, but some on air talent.

Toronto Mike has the basic details on that plus 1010 NEWSTALK radio cutting it's whole news department

All the staff cuts are raising questions as Bell Media recieved federal covid money this past year.   The basic intent of that money was to save jobs.

Robert Downey, Jr. seems to have replaced her for Sunday night.  Metallica is musical guest.
