'DWTS' Back to ABC

After last year's livestream experiment on Disney+, "Dancing With the Stars" will return for its 37th series (in the British sense) this fall to ABC, although it will continue to livestream on Disney+ and stream the next day on Hulu:

The reason for the return is that ABC needs another reality comp anchor besides the "Bachelor" franchise and "Idol" and the Chapek regime at Disney that came up with the Disney+ move is gone and Bob Iger is back.

I can't help but wonder if this isn't also Disney hedging their bets against a long WGA strike impacting fall premieres.  DWTS can occupy a large swath of primetime real estate...

(Along those lines, anyone think an emergency fall season of American Idol is going to get rushed into production this summer?)

Well, if Seacrest starts talking about auditions beginning a few weeks after the finale, we'll find out.  And even though "Jeopardy!" and "The Chase" are WGA shops, they've still got an unaired season of "To Tell the Truth" and "Press Your Luck," "Celebrity Wheel," "Celebrity Feud," "Judge Steve Harvey," "Generation Gap" and "Pyramid" to be quickly put back in production. If they can find someone to replace Alec Baldwin, they could put "Match Game" back on. If they can find someone other than Leslie Jones, they could even put "Supermarket Sweep" back on.
