Tourists not exactly flocking to Paris for the Games

Domestic visitors as of now are expected to make up 85% of attendees at the Olympics (actual competition started Wednesday, and from what I saw on Peacock, even for soccer and 7-a-side rugby held in massive 'dromes, the crowds weren't much... and the nation's top labor union plans a strike for opening-ceremony day tomorrow...

One of my friends from college is a sports reporter in Seattle, and he was dispatched to Paris. He has been posting many pictures on social media, and I’m astonished how empty the streets are. I would’ve assumed the streets would be more crowded than Le Tour De France. Guess not.

We will see. Early round Olympic events often have empty seats.

I lived in Pasadena during the 1984 Olympics (the Rose Bowl was a main soccer venue) when there were apocalyptic predictions about gridlock LA traffic. Those Olympics were perceived as being very successful in part because Peter Uberroth ran a profit, but also because the traffic was actually better than usual, in part because a lot of locals left town.
