While “The News with…” brought in the ad dollars, it didn’t bring in the eyeballs.

I gave it a try. They had no budget for reporters, so they had to mine footage and stories from the wire services and elsewhere, which meant there was nothing on his broadcast that couldn’t be found elsewhere. Smith is as uncharismatic as they come, so he certainly wasn’t a draw.
It never ceases to amaze me that people can be given an hour of network programming and do nothing with it.
