Ellison needs his controlled opposition for the midterms so that Stewart can go full sad-sack "both sidez are badz!" all through Election Day 2026.

Skydance may also seen the blowback from the Kimmel suspension and decided that letting Stewart continue was less damaging than refusing to renew and having that called censorship.

There's also the feeling that Trump doesn't watch Comedy Central and thus doesn't know what "TDS" and "South Park" is saying about him (as for COM's other current first-run show, there's the possibility that Beavis and Butt-Head might say "huh huh, Trump is cool, huh huh huh huh"). I don't 'think he's watched a scripted show in years.
