Luckily nothing about the new show resembles the old version. And this one avoids orientalism; it feels like there was an Asian presence in the writers’ room. The protagonist is an American daughter of immigrants who spent 3 years in the Shaolin Monastery learning to be a warrior. She returns to Chinatown in San Francisco to fight crime and search for magic swords.

The show is a hybrid of superhero, family drama, and pretty young woman in the city genres. People who like the CW superhero dramas will like this one.
