Faster than the rest of TV, production down ~50% since last year. Other TV production is down too, but has stabilized around -15%. As TV production has moved to streaming, Streamers have not been as keen in investing in the area, as they now have decades of popular reality show libraries that audiences are devouring.

My own experience is the streamers are promoting the hell out of their vapid reality shows. The only thing more pervasive are the true crime shows, but I have someone in my family who watches those, so at least it makes sense to see those in the “you might like” listings.

My mother in law watches the Jeopardy/Wheel hour which airs locally on ABC. Ss a result, I know first hour of ABC prime time is typically either a game show or a reality show.

I’ve spent most of this summer rewatching Babylon 5, John Wayne westerns, and Parks and Rec, yet the algorithm never recommends scifi, westerns, or sitcoms for me.

Well, this is a measure of production during the Spring, so I guess will show up in actual offerings this Fall.

I have been known to watch a few episodes of “Is this cake?”, and we love the glass blowing show on Netflix, and, especially the ceramics show on Max I think. But I won’t be too unhappy if one consequence of Streaming is a net reduction in ratio of Reality shows.
