I understand considering Home Alone as lesser, but many more people saw it.
SCTV was always special to me and my favorite episode is when the Russians
broke into the show to show Upposcrablesky!

The above post has a bunch of links. If you can't get them without signing
into bluesky, then head to internet archive and search for SCTV.

I recently had a very good friend of a similar age as O’Hara die
unexpectedly after a very brief illness like a couple of days, so those
feelings are very real and raw to me.

O’Hara was wonderful, even in projects that we’re not quite worthy of her
talent. When she was in a quality project, it became transcendent. It seems
to be most of the obits I’ve read since yesterday highlight second city,
home alone, Schitzs Creek. I would echo the first and the third of those,
but for me my memories of her lead off with a mighty wind, Which is one of
my favorite comedy films of all time and showcases her unique gifts for
straight out comedy and bringing a certain vulnerability and emotional
openness to it otherwise is usually a very broad and harsh medium. Her
talent and her presence really was more precious than a pot of gold…

I respect how popular home alone has been and frankly I’ve never seen it. I may be one of the few people in America. Who’s never seen that movie. So I’m not saying it’s a bad movie it’s just not the project that resonates for me with her.

It's been forever since I've seen it, but I remember SCTV's NYE "1984" episode was both hilarious and scared the living bejeezus out of me as a kid.

Re: SCTv

And blow 'em up good!

Liked the obligatory Canada content skits that were tongue in cheek and very Canadian
because of that - Great White North dreams ;-)

On SCTV she played character types I had seen before but never in the way
that she played them. Here is an appreciation by Merrill Markoe who finds a
common thread in her work:
