The curious thing about this is that the Commonwealth Games are not being shown by the BBC this year. Warner Brothers Discovery owned TNT Sports outbid the BBC. The live opening ceremony and nightly highlights are on the Paramount owned Channel 5. 

But the organisers absolutely worked with BBC Studios to have the TARDIS make an appearance.
