THR heard from a network spokeser, but an anon ABC News staffer was a bit more blunt about Moran to Fox: "You tweeted something, and you basically hurt all of us. We don’t need this sh-t. ... It sucks. It really sucks." The staffer believed #ThatFool "would have gone scorched earth if the network didn’t act quickly."

At a certain point (and I think we have reached if not passed it) what Moran said was just reporting the news. He did not hate-tweet, he explained what drives Stephen Miller, and how he is similar and different from Trump.

I think we would hope a newsman in 1936 Germany would have the integrity to describe Goebbels as a world class hater, while Hitler is also a hater, but driven more by his narcissism.

ABC had the good manners to admit they had to fire him because they are afraid of Trump. Perhaps that’s good business, but it’s not good journalism. See below for what Moran wrote:

“Miller is “one of the people who conceptualizes the impulses of the Trumpist movement and translates them into policy. But that’s not what’s interesting about Miller. It’s not brains. It’s bile.

Miller is a man who is richly endowed with the capacity for hatred. He’s a world-class hater. You can see this just by looking at him because you can see that his hatreds are his spiritual nourishment. He eats his hate.

Trump is a world-class hater, But his hatred only a means to an end, and that end his his own glorification. That’s his spiritual nourishment.”

Thank you for posting.

I'm guessing that every Jew on this planet is embarrassed by the existence of Stephen Miller.  I know that I am.  I cringe every time I see him on TV.  I'm curious.  Does his family or members of their synagogue in Santa Monica ever speak to the press?  Years ago, I believe an uncle did and expressed his embarrassment and disgust on Rachel Maddow's show..  But I've not heard anyone else speak out.

That said, I understand why Terry lost his job.  Years ago, I knew one of Terry's brothers; he was engaged to a new friend who is still one of my best friends and they were neighbors in the same apartment building.  I even took him out to dinner after he very kindly stopped by at midnight to dispose of a mouse my cat had killed.

bringing this back to late night TV...... that's a tangential Brush With Greatness.

As I’ve mentioned before, when I studied journalism in college, I had a terrific professor named Cliff Rowe. At one point during the semester, he pulled me aside and complimented my writing ability, then told me how awful it would be if I ever pursued a career in journalism. I asked him why, and he replied “because you cannot keep your f-ing opinion to yourself.”

I understand a double-standard is at play, and conservatives salivate and applaud when a FoxNews talking-head speaks of evil liberals or dumbocrats. But I maintain nobody in a partisan news organization qualifies as a journalist. Moran lowered himself to their level.

I’ve been backing away from social media this year (seriously, I’m mostly on LinkedIn), and in so doing I realize how utterly pointless it is to post on social networks. Moran is smart enough to know that, too. I don’t disagree with anything he said, but he had to know that his profession requires a higher standard when it comes to public statements. I’m a school teacher, and I have to police my opinions constantly. Moran’s words had consequences. What remains to be seen is whether his words have benefits.
