Hello George
Welcome to The Villages!
As you probably know there are two basic types of kayaks available: paddle and peddle drive.
Paddle kayaks work well on Florida fresh water lakes. These lakes usually have a lot of grasses and lily pads on the surface. A paddle kayak will skim over these obstacles relatively easily. Peddle drives can be frequently fouled and require cleaning. Hobie type peddle drives work better in these conditions.
The Villages fishing ponds are mostly grass and pads free. You can use a kayak on approved fishing ponds. The Fresh Water Fishing Club web site has great information on the do's and don'ts of fishing in The Villages.
There are the usual stores to buy new kayaks. Here are some places to buy used locally:
Fresh Water Fishing Club web site, Talk of the Villages, Nextdoor.com, TV Daily Sun news paper, estate sales, craigslist, eBay, etc...
Hope to see you on the water here soon!
