Marni and I fished two of the canals off of Lake Ida, near Boynton Beach two days last week.  We used a guide and we used wild shad for bait.

The wild shad were caught on Lake Ida in early morning and purchased from the man who caught them himself.  He told me he is on the water catching bait at 5:30!

The guide's boat was a specially constructed edition to let him pass under the many very low bridges and utility pipes crossing the canals.  We had to duck our heads to pass under several and of course the boat has no windshield.  There are very few residential docks on the canals we fished (I expect the low bridges are a major reason for this).

Peacock bass are great fighters and we both had several fish that pulled lines from spinning rod spools.  The guide uses braid with no leaders.

We caught 28 fish the first day and 35 fish the second.  The largest was 5 lbs 4 oz (guess who caught that - Marni of course).
