Hi,
The primary difference of interest between these papers is that the first one uses maximum a posteriori estimate with optimization, which provides a single value for the parameters, while the second paper uses Stan's Hamiltonian Monte Carlo (HMC) to sample
parameter values. The latter provides better results in principle. In practice, it is useful to do some checks with optimization and then HMC.
You are right the papers do not use the same method for evaluating EZ, so you should choose the one which works best for your data.
