Convert empirical BOLD to firing rate and membrane potential for tvb.simulation.inital_conditions

Hello,

I would like to be able to set initial conditions (firing rate and membrane potential) for a TVB model based on empirical BOLD data we have in order to observe the dynamics that follow from these initial conditions.

I realize that there would be multiple solutions for this mapping but if if we set some constraints/assumptions we should be able to constrain the problem space: for example, assume that the HRF has peaked and that firing rate and membrane potential are constant.

Would someone be able to provide a suggestion for how to calculate this reverse mapping in a way that is consistent with how the monitor produces BOLD from firing rate and membrane potential?

I think the easiest approach would be to run several short simulations with the steady state assumption you mention, check the BOLD values you get, varying the parameters and initial conditions until you have coverage of the range of BOLD values you observe empirically.

Hello,

Thank you for your response, this suggestion could work. How would I configure the model to maintain a constant firing rate and membrane potential rather than simulating dynamics based on one of the models?

that depends on the model.  Some models like the Reduced Wong-Wang only have fixed points, so that would be a place to start.
