Hello all,

I have a question regarding the processing steps of simulated EEG data, using TVB demonstration dataset and tutorial 6 about modeling epilepsy as starting point.

When using the tutorial, simulated EEG data coming from this does not necessarily represent 'normal looking' EEG. From what I have been reading so far from literature, seizure-like periods are observed as fast oscillations coming from the first subsystem during the wave part of the spike wave event from the second subsystem. This is therefore what can be seen as sum of the state varables' output.

I find it however difficult to interpret the simulation results of the EEG monitor. It is not similar to what we can observe from EEG measured in a clinical setting. Can you provide some hints on what is necessary to change this and why does this make sense from a physiological point of view?

Thanks,

Elike

hi,

are you working with EEG data or intracranial EEG ?  most of the work in TVB has been done with intracranial, on specific seizure types with sudden onset in temporal lobe epilepsy.  Other kinds of seizures exist but require different parameter values in the TVB model that haven't necessarily been identified (yet).  Perhaps you can share a screenshot of a signal sample that looks particularly different from TVB.

cheers,

Marmaduke
