I had a few quality minutes with the occultation of Venus yesterday. I set up my 3-inch scope at f5 and snapped shots spanning shutter speeds of 1000-4000. In the bright sunlight, I couldn't see my camera screen well enough to know which exposure was best, but I was able to adjust the different exposure times when I created a video of 6 images that capture the occultation. Honestly, I was surprised I got the focus well enough.

The png picture shows about a minute or less before first contact.

Hi John. What time was first contact?
I set up my NIKON DSLR with a 300mm lens at about 1pm which I thought was before first contact. I figured I couldn’t see the planet because the sky was so bright. (I was also searching with binoculars). While struggling to see something, suddenly at about 1:14pm, Venus pops out from behind the moon in the first photo above. I took several more pics including the second shot above at 1:41 pm which shows Venus moving further away.
Clearly, I missed first light!
