Hi,

There is a new version of OmegaT on sourceforge. It's the 3.5.2
It would be nice if you can update it in Tuxtrans.

Thanks

Hi,
There's a new version of OmegaT in http://omegat.org/  It's the 4.1.3
I tried to install it manually but it didn't work. It seems that there is a problem with java. Can you help me?
Thanks

yes, the new OmegaT version is 4.1.3. update 1
You can install it manually in the following way:

1) download the latest version of OmegaT without JRE (not windows, not linux, not mac)
2) unzip the file into an empty directory
3) open ALT F2 and type "gksu tuxcmd" in order to start the tuxcommander with administrator rights, type in your password
4) change to the unzipped omegat files directory on one panel, and to /opt/omegat/ on the other panel
5) in the unzipped directory delete the omegat.kaptn file with F8
6) mark all other files
6) copy all the new unzipped omegat files to the /opt/omegat/ directory with F5
with the exception of the omegat.kaptn file, do not copy this omegat.kaptn file! it would overwrite the customized tuxtrans omegat.kaptn file

that's it.
Afterwards you can start OmegaT from the menu as usual.

regards
Peter

I forgot: Java doesn't have anything to do with the omegat update
if the old version of omegat worked, the new one will also work, unless you have changed something in your Java installation
to check your java, open a terminal and type "java -version", it should be java oracle jre 1.8
if it is openjdk change the configuration to oracle jre: open a terminal and type:
sudo update-alternatives --config java
select the oracle jre option and you're done.

Hi Peter,

Thank you.
However, I could not download the file without JRE (I think is the "Cross platform without JRE", am I right?), as you can see in the print Screen:

I hope you can help me again!

Thanks Peter, you saved my life! It's working now.
If I could ask you one more favor, could you help me create a shortcut? I will share all that in Portuguese, to help other users.
Thank you very much
Best regards

Dominique

if you follow the procedure below there is no need for a new shortcut, i.e. the old one in tuxtrans still works
if you would like to make a shortcut for other linux installations it always depends on the desktop used
in tuxtrans it is XFCE and the shortcut is in /usr/share/applications/omegat.desktop or /usr/share/applications/omegat-kaptain.desktop

PS where are you staying in Portugal? I was in Lissabon back in February and I liked the city very much!

Hi Peter,

I'm Brazilian, and you? Do you speak French or Spanish too? ;)

I installed tuxtrans in April and this month I upgraded to Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS, but OmegaT stayed in an old version. So, I installed manually and I had these problems that you help me solve. I'm a beginner yet. The old OmegaT shortcut didn't work, and I couldn't create a new one. However, I created a symbolic link and now I just have to type OMEGAT on the terminal and it runs.

I'll translate in Portuguese the guidance you gave me to help other people. Thanks a lot!

Best regards,

Dominique

Hi Dominique

I am in snowy Innsbruck, Austria, I understand Spanish but unfortunately not Portuguese

For the tuxtrabns desktop to work you need the 3 files attached

in the /opt/omegat directory there has to be the omegatlaunch.sh
the content of which is
-----------------
#!/bin/bash
cd /opt/omegat
kaptain omegat.kaptn
------------------
omegatlaunch.sh must be made executable: just open the tuxcommander in admin mode, go to the directory and rightclick the file, i the menu there should be something like rights or preferences

in the /usr/share/applications directory you should copy the other two files which are
omegat-kaptain.desktop with this content

--------------------------
#!/usr/bin/env xdg-open
[Desktop Entry]
Categories=omegat
Comment=Translation Memory system with Launcher for specific Settings
Exec=/opt/omegat/omegatlaunch.sh
Hidden=false
Icon=/usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/apps/relOT18.png
Name=OmegaT + Start Parameters
Terminal=false
Type=Application
Version=1.0
--------------------------

and omegat.desktop with this content

--------------------------
#!/usr/bin/env xdg-open
[Desktop Entry]
Categories=omegat
Comment=Translation Memory System
Exec=java -jar /opt/omegat/OmegaT.jar
Hidden=false
Icon=/usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/apps/OmegaT.png
Name=OmegaT
Terminal=false
Type=Application
Version=3.5.3
--------------------------

Then your tuxtrans should be ok again.

Why doesn't your old shortcut work any more? Maybe you deleted the whole /opt/omegat directory before copying the new omegat version, and so deletet also the omegatlaunch.sh?

best
Peter
