Hi,

we are thinking of updating tuxtrans. originally, we were thinking of
taking the next long-term Ubuntu version which will be released in
spring 2012 (Ubuntu 12.04) and develop tuxtrans on top of it.In this
case, we would have a completely new desktop (Unity). But also the
standard Gnome desktop does not exist any more, it has evolved into
Gnome 3 which also has a completely new interface.
So, the choices for a new tuxtrans next year would be:
1) tuxtrans on top of Ubuntu 12.04 with the Unity desktop (sth I don't
like)
2) tuxtrans on top of Kubuntu 12.04 with the KDE desktop (my favoured
solution and most likely the easiest for people coming from Windows)
3) tuxtrans on top of Xubuntu or some other distribution with a more
traditional desktop (e.g. Linux Mint)
What do you think?

I think the XFCE/Xubuntu option is a good idea.
Also, if you really want to go the extra-mile and built TuxTrans on
Linux Mint Debian Edition,
I think taht would be the most excellent option (also with XFCE or
LXDE as default desktop, as opposed to
bloated KDE or monstrous Gnome3 or Unity).

Hi Peter,

I'd go with Mint, wich seems to be "the better Ubuntu" ;-)

In any case, XFCE and LXDE seem to be better choices than either Gnome or KDE. They're both pretty easy to come to grips with for new users.

Best
Alexandra
