Solexa quals for Illumina 1.8+ (nextseq 500) data

Hello,
I have data generated from Nextseq500 (illumina 1.8+) and which argument in tophat has to be used --solexa-quals or default which is phred33.
We have done some benchmarking and have found --solexa-quals yields more transcripts than the default (other arguments do not work for this data). But this (solexa quals) may be very old arugment used before illumina 1.3+. Kindly share your opinion.
