Lansweeper allows you to use multiple Windows computers to scan and deploy changes in your network. The machines scanning and deploying in your network, so-called "scanning servers", only have the Lansweeper Server service installed and push data to a central Lansweeper database. Each scanning server can be configured separately.
Having multiple scanning servers is recommended if you have several thousand assets or remote sites connected through TCP/IP or VPN connections. A multi scanning server setup allows for more efficient load balancing, as the scanning load, deployment requests and network traffic are divided among multiple machines.
Scanning and other credentials submitted in the Lansweeper web console have always been encrypted before being added to the Lansweeper database.
From Lansweeper 6.0 onward, an added layer of security protects your passwords.
Credentials can no longer be encrypted or decrypted without an encryption key file on your Lansweeper server. A unique Encryption.txt key file is automatically generated and added to the Program Files (x86)\Lansweeper\Key folder on your Lansweeper server when you install Lansweeper 6.0 or a more recent Lansweeper release.
If you spread out your Lansweeper installation over several machines, you need to manually copy one key file to all of your servers, so all servers use the same key. If all servers do not use the same key file or if your key file is changed after submitting credentials, you may see errors similar to the ones below in the Lansweeper web console. These errors indicate that the key file that was used to encrypt your credentials is not (or no longer) the same key file present on your Lansweeper server(s).
1. If your Lansweeper installation has multiple scanning servers, ensure the Use key file on disk to encrypt passwords option is checked under Configuration > Server Options. This ensures that your installation uses the new, more secure method of encrypting credentials with an Encryption.txt file.
If you only have one scanning server, there is no Use Key File checkbox to change the method of encrypting credentials. With one scanning server, your Lansweeper installation will always use the new form of encrypting credentials with an Encryption file.
2. If your Lansweeper installation is spread out over several machines, grab the file below from one of those machines. In most cases, the Encryption.txt found on the server hosting the web console is the correct one, i.e., the one used to encrypt your credentials initially.
Program Files (x86)\Lansweeper\Key\Encryption.txt
3. Copy the Encryption.txt file to the folder found at Program Files (x86)\Lansweeper\Key on any server hosting a Lansweeper component, overwriting any other Encryption.txt files that may already be present on the servers. The Encryption file on all servers hosting a Lansweeper component must be the same.
6. Restart the web server service in Windows Services on the machine hosting your web console. Keep in mind that this will log everyone out of the console. Your web server service is either IIS Express or World Wide Web Publishing Service (IIS).
Lansweeper is an IT asset management software provider helping businesses better understand, manage and protect their IT devices and network. Please do not use automatic scanners -be creative and do it yourself! We cannot accept any submissions found by using automatic scanners. Scanners also won't improve your skills, and can cause a high server load (we'd like to put our time in thanking researchers rather than blocking their IP's ?)
With this trial you get access to our cloud platform (app.lansweeper.com), our on-premises software and the sync process (edge.lansweeper.com) between these two. You have to install our on-premises software somewhere locally and this will allow you to scan your local network and push the results to the cloud platform via the sync process.
Our cloud relay server connection using LsAgent. If the computers you're scanning do not have a direct connection to your Lansweeper installation, scanned LsAgent data can be sent to our relay server in the cloud.
Our LsAgent is a cross-platform scanning agent that can scan computers both inside and outside of your network. It automatically collects an inventory from the computer it's installed on and sends the data back to the Lansweeper installation, this can be done through our relay server in the cloud.
For this, you must enable relay access in your Lansweeper installation.
Scanned LsAgent data is sent securely over HTTPS (TLS 1.2) to the relay server in Microsoft Azure, where it is encrypted as well. Your Lansweeper scanning server can retrieve the scanned data from the relay server, after which it is deleted from the relay. In order to use the relay server, make sure outbound traffic is allowed on your Lansweeper scanning server. Specifically, the scanning server must be able to make an outbound connection to port 443 of lsagentrelay.lansweeper.com, the cloud relay server.
You can request your trial on our website: With this trial you get access to our cloud platform (app.lansweeper.com), our on-premises software and the sync process (edge.lansweeper.com) between these two. When registering on the cloud application, you can create your own site(s) for your personal use, and add local Lansweeper installations (multiple are possible) to this site. Adding a local Lansweeper installation is explained in the ADP onboarding webinar (see above).

Lansweeper comes with a variety of scanning methods to accommodate any network setup. Schedule a full network scan by IP range and set critical servers to be scanned every hour or use active scanning and integrate active directory to continuously keep your inventory up to date. Configure scanning just the way you want it to be.
Lansweeper enables you to scan off-site computers that are not part of your network. An agent based scanning method that takes full, local inventories of your client machines is included in the installation. Transferring the scanned information to the Lansweeper database can be done manually, via email or automatically through a direct server connection.
Scanned devices are automatically sorted into categories based on their device type. Locating devices and checking configuration is extremely easy. Sort devices by IP or find a specific one through a filtered search in the web console.
Lansweeper's multiple scanning methods give you complete control and enable you to scan how, when and exactly what you want. Scanning needs, varying on the size of your company and its internal dynamics, are all addressed through the flexible setup.
Hello,My company is an outsourced IT provider for small to medium businesses - approximately 1000 customers. I have PRTG running in a lot of my customer sites. We currently use Spiceworks to pull inventory data into our proprietary customer database (SQL backend). Well, Spiceworks is a terrible program that does not work consistently. I have been tasked with investigating alternatives for this. I need a program specifically to tell my team the follow: What is installed for software on servers and PCs. What is the serial number (service tag) of the pcs and servers. Warranty status. OS version, and any license keys associated with programs installed.
thank you very much for your KB-Post. I'm very much afraid PRTG does not have such inventory capabilities in the moment. I did just count your vote, we do have this on our wishlist though. Albeit I cannot go into details when this might be implemented. Sorry.
Please add our vote for this as well. We are an MSP and have PRTG installed at multiple customer sites. Having PRTG collect a list of install programs and the version numbers of each would be extremely helpful.
We would also appreciate the implementation of this feature. PRTG is collecting monitoring data from all our servers / devices and it would be a perfect add-on if it would also collect inventory data. We don't want to maintain another system for this.
Would be great to have integrated in PRTG a proper asset management database for IT equipment (that can be used also decoupled from the monitoring part ie. a database where one can put asset and rapidly query on it).It would indeed make sense and will greatly complement the PRTG solution.thanks
