SingleJack has it right: This is the first reply that had a simple fix that works ... and about time too. All the other approaches are way too involved. Turn on: System Setting > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access > siriactionsd

In both cases just drop the image files on the app to convert them to jpeg. The Automator app converts the heic files go jpeg replacing the original. The converter app asks where to save the converted files thus saving the originals.

More information might be useful. What OS are you using? Have you re-booted? Can you import this HEIC picture into Preview? Can you export it from Preview as a jpeg file? Can you use Quick Action Convert to convert jpg files?

I just noticed this same issue. I wanted to add that I just upgraded from an Intel iMac to an M2 Pro Mac mini and migrated my data from the iMac. I have no idea if that's related, but it was working fine on the iMac within the last few days.

Tried in safe mode and it doesn't work then either. I tried on my Intel iMac and it's working there with the same HEIC file. I'll have to try my wife's M2 MacBook when she's not using it. I'm curious if it's Apple Silicon related.

Interesting! I think I'm going to reformat my new Mac mini soon anyway. Seems there are some random issues with having migrated from Intel to Apple Silicon with other apps. I feel like a fresh start would be a good idea.

We have tried in Safe Mode (same error message as reported in original post by ShawnCN2). We have looked at the System Settings > Extensions options and can see nothing obviously changed or unexpected there.

I hope Apple will identify the problem that is causing this and, if possible, fix this in a future system update by making the quick actions more robust. It is extremely wasteful to have to start over with a new user account and sync the iCloud, Mail, Music, TV, Keychain and everything again. That will take weeks for large libraries.

Exactly so ... having to create a new user account to address the issue is an absurd amount of work (with all the things I have layered into my set-up, that's probably about 20-hours of work -- you've got to be kidding). That approach is using a sledge hammer to kill a flea. Apple needs to come up with a programmatic solution, not blame the user by having them reconfigure their Macs.

I had to revert to Terminal commands to change the defaults for the date formats and number formats, to replace the missing System settings from the Language & Regions settings. You may have noticed, that Apple has simplified these setting so drastically, that many useful options are gone. But as a result, Apple Script can no longer interpret numbers, dates and times correctly. None of the services I creating that are using Apple Script are running correctly, once I tweaked the format defaults using the Terminal. Partly it is my own fault, that Apple Script based services are no more working correctly, but at the root of the problem are the missing Language & RegionSystem Settings, that are forcing us to change the defaults using the Terminal. Otherwise it would be impossible to use number formats and data and time formats, that are not available for the region, where we are living. I simply need to be able to use scientific number and date formats for my work and particularly to handle timezones in Photos or export photos/videos with the date format yyyy-mm-dd in the filename. But changing the defaults, so Photos will use more useful date and time formats seems to break Apple Script and the Apple Script based services.

I recently started to have the same problem and i used this feature to convert from heic to jpg on a daily basis, This is very inconvenient and frustrating.! Thank you Apple AGAIN for making our life 'easier" So what is the solution?? I do not understand and know how to change the user or what that implies. Please be more specific and give step by step instructions!

This is not a real option to resolve this issue! I have to create an entirely new user..all my settings from all my devices gone...no ! Please resolve this in a proper way as it is an issue apple created and not on our time and effort. Unbelievable!

Sorry for being late on my update. I called apple tech support and they fixed it for me rather quickly. I actually don't remember all they did, but I didn't have to make a new profile or do any sort of complete factory reset.

Surprisingly, the photos taken on my iPhone 13 Pro are saved in .heic format when I connected it to my Windows 11 PC and plan to edit some of them in Photoshop. I have roughly 1000 images on iPhone and would love to learn a fast way to bulk convert .heic to jpg on my PC.

[Update] Still receive notification from this thread from time to time. Actually, I installed a few heic converters, the one that finally worked is TunesBro HEIC Converter, suggested by Mohamed857. Here is the step-by-step tutorial (external link removed by moderator) you can check out.

CloudConvert is a powerful online file conversion service that supports over 200 different file formats, including HEIC, JPG, and more. It allows users to convert files without installing any software on their computer, making it a convenient solution for various file conversion needs. The platform is designed with an easy-to-use interface, enabling users to quickly convert files without any prior technical knowledge.

Please be cautious when using online converters, as uploading personal or sensitive images to third-party websites might pose privacy risks. Also, the conversion speed may depend on your internet connection and the size of the files being converted.

However, instead of importing your photos as HEIC and then converting them on your PC, you should be able to import them directly as JPG (having the phone convert them upon transfer). For this, change the settings on the iPhone. I have it in French but in English the option in the camera settings should be named something like "Transfer to Mac or PC" and then a choice between Original file (=HEIC) and Automatic (=HEIC when transferring to a Mac and JPG in other cases).

So, I recently got myself one of those fancy new iPhones, and it comes with this nifty HEIC photo format. It's all cool for saving space, but when it comes to sharing pics with friends who aren't on Team Apple, well, that's a bit of a pickle.

1. The main reason I got this software was to convert my HEIC photos to JPEG. All I had to do was drag and drop the HEIC files into the program, select the output format (JPEG, in my case), and click the "Convert" button. It was that simple. I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly the software converted my photos. Even when dealing with a batch of images, it didn't take long at all. This was a huge time-saver for me.

I'd definitely recommend giving TunesBro HEIC Converter a try, it solved the compatibility issue I had with HEIC photos and made sharing images a breeze. Plus, the software was so user-friendly that I didn't feel like I needed to be a tech guru to use it effectively.

Certainly! I also used TunesBro HEIC Converter to change lots of .heic image to PNG, it saved the day when I found myself stuck with HEIC format photos on my iPhone, causing compatibility headaches with non-Apple devices. Its hassle-free installation and user-friendly interface made converting HEIC to JPEG a breeze, preserving image quality while delivering lightning-fast results.

@HolawayStay away from TunesBro HEIC Converter. It works fine if you are converting a couple dozen photos, but I needed to convert a couple thousand. You can't convert more than around 80 without the application locking up. There is a terrible memory leak so have each tiny batch of conversion, you have to restart the application because it never releases memory. Poorly written and not user friendly at all.

Hi all. What is the best workflow to get HEIC files out of Apple Photos and converted to JPG format that will maintain the best quality? They're currently on my Mac in Apple Photos as originals and on my iPhone as optimized.

Lastly, in the future, should I continue to shoot HEIF on my phone or just shoot JPG if I don't want to shoot RAW? I've heard mixed reviews of HEIF, with some sites saying they're way better than JPG and others saying to stick with JPG. I thought HEIF would be more like a "compressed RAW" format, kind of like the Sony compressed RAW format, but after reading more about it, it seems more like a slightly better JPG format with a higher bit depth. Thanks for any help.

I would be surprised if Adobe doesn't support the new format sometime soon. At the moment, I have no clue what way is best for conversion. However, if you have an iPhone, the very best way to shoot is to shoot raw in the Lightroom CC app on your phone and have the dng files sync straight into Lightroom.

I'm using a desktop app to convert the HEIC photos to JPG as I don't think it's safe to use online tools. The app is called Joyoshare HEIC Converter. The best part I love it is its ability to keep the original image quality in JPEG. BTW, it supports converting HEIC to PNG, GIF and other formats too. You can download the free version from its official site: -converter-for-mac/

I've been downloading HEIF files to my desktop, opening them in Preview, then batch saving them as JPEGs. It's a bit tedious, but it's a decent work around until Adobe and others begin to natively support HEIF files. I'm not sure if there's a similar work around for a PC.

Nope, not a solution... at all.

A- if you don;t have Lightroom

B- inefficient workflow

Is it so hard to get HEIC support and not 3 dimensional coagulation of reverse inverse yaqua silly feature? Really, HEIC import = EASY and LOGICAL. Some other feature adds are ridiculously NOT needed by most... but importing from an iPhone certainly should count.

I tried that, because that's my usual workflow. But it converted all my high-res HEIC files into low-res JPG files - even though my setting were to convert them at the highest quality level and 100% size.
