Somy PC crashed a couple days ago and I need to run a clean install of windows 10 from a bootable USB. The only other computer I have to work with is a Chrome OS, and I can't seem to find clear instructions on how to create a bootable USB from Chrome OS. Most of my search results are pulling up how to create a bootable USB to use within the Chromebook itself, whereas I want it to be used on a PC. Any ideas on how to do this?
Download the ISO file for Windows 10 from the Microsoft website here. Add the Chrome extension "Chromebook Recovery Utility." (Click here) Rename the downloaded file from filename.iso to filename.bin(The file name is usually called "Win10_22H2_English_x64v1.iso"). Launch Chromebook Recovery Utility and click the settings button in the top right corner, select "Use local image". Select the filename.bin that you downloaded and renamed. Insert and select the USB drive you are putting the iso on, wait for it to load, your done!
If your PC has the capacity to connect two USB devices, and you dohave two large-enough USB disks, then use one disk for booting anoperating system that can create on the other diskthe required Windows installation from the ISO.
They have confirmed it will run on windows 10. So I need an easy solution to get win 10 running on a chromebook. Can I run it as a VM if so how, or can I blow the machine away and just install windows on the device.
We have wasted a day whilst her tech have tried to fix a buggy app and now she is leaving early tomorrow morning, so little short of stopping off and buying her 3 new laptops on the way home I need to get these chromebooks running windows 10 ideally as a vm
As already mentioned, it is possible to replace ChromeOS by Windows. You may also want to check the hardware in order to select the proper variant of Windows, e.g. if your Chromebook is running on ARM hardware.
The migration guide refers to a remote desktop option for Chromebooks. So you may consider to create virtual Windows 10 instances in the public Cloud and install your company application in such virtual devices, and have these Chromebooks connect to these virtual devices during the show. Sounds like the most promising approach.
Touchpad and Keyboard are not working. Wifi is not working, and it is using some basic graphics (1024x768 resolution). This computer has an i5 processor with integrated graphics, and should be able to provide much higher resolution.
Update: The keyboard backlight became activated after installing driverinstallers/wilcoec/wilcoec.1.0-installer.exe at master coolstar/driverinstallers GitHub. But the keyboard itself is not working. Keyboard backlights are going off and on. Sometimes they can be controlled with left alt + brightness keys, but no other keyboard keys are working.
Also, I will be happy to pay for these drivers, like other Chromebooks.
In case you live in the US, I will also be happy to temporarily send the device to you, if you need that to write the drivers.
I use this exact device on Debian Linux. Everything works fine including sleep keyboard and trackpad. You can run Windows in a virtual machine too. I think that that would be the best windows experience you can get on the device.
2. Next, move the ISO image of Windows 10 or Windows 7 in the Linux section of the Files app.3. Now, open the Linux Terminal and run the below commands one by one to keep your Linux up to date. If you are doing this for the first time then it will take some time.sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade -y
10. Once you do that, you will be asked to activate the Virtual Network. Click on Yes.Run Windows 10 on a Chromebook1. Within a few seconds, Windows 10 will boot inside the Virtual Machine (VM). Now, proceed with the installation just like you do on Windows. The best part is that the Windows VM has internet connectivity and sound functionality too.
It should be as easy as copying an pasting a command so that we can get into that file that needs to be updated using nano commands, so can anyone tell us non Linux using users in baby terms exactly what we are supposed to type in Linux line by line in order to enter the file that needs to be updated?
I installed it and it opens just fine except windows is stuck in introduction mode.. all I can do is the few things Cortana directs me to do as far as setting up my email and everything.. as soon as its finished it starts all over again.
Make sure your Chromebook is powered off, and connected to an external power source. Connect the flash drive to your Chromebook, then power it on. Press CRTL + L on the developer screen to bring up the legacy bios. Hit escape to see the boot options then choose your flash drive from the boot devices.
From this point, you will need to make sure that you connect an external mouse and keyboard so that you can navigate around the system. The first order of business is to completely wipe Chrome OS from the disk. On the Windows installation screen go to repair.
After your chromebook reboots, go back to the legacy bios and boot from the flash drive again. From this point on, you can install Windows just like a normal installation. Wifi should be functional. If you are on an Acer C720 and you need aduio to work, download and install this driver. If you have any questions or comments feel free to leave them down below.
Hello, I recently got a Pixma MG2522 printer and im trying to get it to connect to my Chromebook. Which is not windows or mac. Hopefully you know what it is because im not good with computers. My printer does not connect to wifi of course. Ive tried to go to the website to download the software for the printer but its only for windows, Macbook, Windows rt, i believe. Im hoping someone can help me figure this out. it kind of weird. I believe when i plug the USB cord into my computer it shows up as a Canon MG2500 series (USB). I click on that and then it says Add Printer Manually. So I click Canon under "Manufacturer" but i dont see my printer option under Model. Which i assume the model is MG2522? or it says "or specify your own driver" which i dont know what that means. Please help....
Chromebooks do not use drivers to install printers. They use Google Cloud print. There are two methods of printing with Google Cloud print, using a Google Cloud Print ready printer or setting up the service on your computer.
Hi James, What if you can't do either one? I added my printer to another laptop I had, but now I got a new laptop & it's way different setup then usual so i'm not used to it. How do I set it up on this new laptop?
The only print option with a Chromebook is to use Google Cloud Print, which requires a network connection, and I'm afraid that the MG2500 series is USB only. A network-capable printer would be required. I regret any inconvenience.
Printing from a Chromebook requires a printer that can be connected to a wireless network. No drivers have been developed for the Chrome OS so, even if connected with a USB cable, it would be unable to communicate with your printer. I am not aware of any way to print from Chromebook to a USB printer.
How to download Python or text editors on a chromebook? I am unable to download from websites such as
pyhton.org they only have options to download for microsoft, MAC, and linux no chromebook option. I am unable to download anything from google play store as well. i have attempted to download a google chrome extension as thats what my search online yielded, and failed.
Just enable Linux on your Chromebook, which is necessary to do any kind of local development on it anyway, and it will already have a semi-recent-ish version of Python installed. Just run python3 and boom, it should just work, no need to install anything.
As said in the title, both Firefox, Firefox DE and Chrome will open and crash/close instantly on my new Lenovo Legion PC with Windows 11 installed on it. Only Edge works, and so far I've tried a lot of solutions :-Restart PC -Uninstall, delete files and fresh install both programs -The MSCONFIG thing and unchecking start programs-Every update Windows update recommended me-Entire new windows install, without any linking with my previous pc (which had the same problem two times already, both fixed by returning to a previous version of windows)
I believed it was a ram problem with my previous pc because it was old, but this one is completely new and has the same problem, while there's nothing except my microsoft account that is common to both PCs
To anyone that lands in this thread : I found the problem ! There is actually a setting when you belong to a microsoft family that is checked by default and that doesn't allow you to open ANY other browser than Edge. -restrictions/ Here, if you look it up on the "family parent" microsoft account, you can uncheck it and then you need to restart your computer and you'll be able to open another browser.
