Two subjects I suggest we should speak about is: 1)the value of women in the islamic society of 21st century and 2) importance of having Turkey as a democratic and islamic role model for Muslim countries in the region.

For young Muslims we should speak about "why cover your modesty". Maybe my daughter and Merve's daughter should do a Q and A session.

I am traveling now and should be back in Miami by the 20th of March.

Prof M Akif Aydin would be an excellent speaker. He is a member of YOK and Dean of Law School at İst Medipol Univ. He is also an admin at İSAM (islamı araştırmalar merkezi).

I also like the topics Sister Rori suggested.

Thanks

I think the same way, Prf. M. Akif Hoca is very good choice, he is very well versed in history of Islamic law, especially on later development in codifications of Islamic law in Ottoman world as well as larger Islamic and Arab world.  He knows very well Islamic/Arab world, (he lived in Egypyt/Cairo as well as in Egngland and  USA, Harvard, as visitor scholar).  He knows both worlds, Islamic and Western worlds widely. He would be good choice to speak about islamic law related issues at Turkish Symposium, or even larger Issues of  islamic identity and its relation to Islamic law, etc.   He can also speak at any Islamic Law related sessions of ISNA's programs that are directed towards non-Turkish english speaking audience.  For example, he can speak history of islamic family law, its  codification efforts  in Arab World, colonialism and islamic law,  Ottoman resistance to Westernization of law ( i.e. Majalla committee, Ahmad Cevdet Pasha end his works  etc).  Within the context of the current sharia debate in USA, these topics may very well attract interest of english speaking ISNA audience, young university students etc, and i think they would like to hear from a Turkish based scholar of Islamic law, because it would shed slightly different lights on current debate.

Wassalam
Kasim
