Why Uber Engineering Switched from Postgres to MySQL?
Uber originally used a monolithic backend application written in Python and Postgres for data persistence, but has since switched to a microservices model and a new data platform called Schemaless, which is a novel database sharding layer built on top of MySQL. The decision to move away from Postgres was due to limitations in its architecture such as inefficiency in writes, data replication and table corruption issues, among others.
