Novel investigated most wanted application missing on Linux

There are some really interesting trends that we can see from the
results. Most wanted is a Finacial application. Quickbooks is no 1 into
that list, as it was in a list to choose from. Quicken on number 8.

Can we influence this a little bit?
Is there a possibility that Novel can help us in porting to Linux and
add TC in a following Suse distribution? We are OS already and can
deliver soon a client-server variant too!

Wanting it is one thing - comming up with it is another. It will take about 5 man years (Approx $ 100 000 per man year)  to get out a Linux release of  TurboCASH. We have everything in place now except the money.

We already have a Firebird version of the database, but work is advancing faster on the Windows/Firebird version.

I agree with you about the idea of getting  a Linux distro to support us. Problem is that I have not yet thought how we can benefita supporting partner. Its the same problem we have with end user Development. THE one who wnats it has to pay full ptice nad 3everyone else gets it free the next day.

I wodulo welcome any ideas you have on cracking this. Put this deal together with Novel or any of them and make yourself something on the way.

Main part of my message is that there is a strong need for a financial
application running directly under Linux.
Nothing less, and a little bit more......
Not just based on a feeling, but based on a investigation by Novell on
their customers/users, resulting into the top 10 where two financial
packages are listed.
Reason to post it here is that hopefully one of the readers has any
idea, if (and how) we can benifit from the Novell idea to make an
financial package available on there distro.
Novell will defenitly prefer an OSS contribution instead of closed
source program. We can help them with a strong Financial package in
their distro and they can help us with our Linux conversion. Ends up in
a win-win situation that will gain new developpers and our software
spread via their distro.
Definetly it will take some time (we can argu about the 5 man years, I
don't do) but in my last alinea is mentioned that if Novell will
announce to have an intention with Turbocash we are in a much better
position to get these x man years.

Iám thinking further how we can make this happen!
