I am unable to use one of my photos for my theme in Gmail. I have tried uploading it to google photos, and also putting it into its own album. Nothing seems to work, as before I would send my image to google hangouts and it would appear there. Now that hangouts are gone, that option is no longer viable. The only fix is to set it as the profile image, but that makes it square, making even high res photos too zoomed in to be any good. Maybe I should make a 16K image?? XD

I spend a decent amount of time setting the photos for all the contacts on my iPhone so that the photo will come up full-screen when talking to them on the phone. I use ActiveSync to sync my iPhone with Google Contacts and Calendar, and that is all working fine, and the photos appear correctly in GMail.

Gmail does resize the contact photos and will only appear as the small photo in the top right when a call is received. Simply taking a photo on your I phone and assigning it to a contact will only revert to the small photo in seconds as soon as the phone syncs with gmail server. Put your contacts on your phone and don't sync with gmail if you want full screen contact photos to display during calls.
