Hi,

Been using TunnelBlick for a while now - and it works nicely connecting to a number of OpenVPN servers. I recently installed Apple Remote Desktop and set that up - that works fine over a VPN connection once setup but I've hit an issue - I'm running TB 3.3beta21b

ARD has a button marked 'Lock computer screen while you control' - it lets you post a message to the remote screen then blank their screen with a large padlock displaying that message. It works - but when the message appears on the remote Mac, the TunnelBlick instantly drops the VPN session.

The session dies - the remote desktop session dies (which unblanks the remote screen) - at which point TunnelBlick re-establishes the VPN - Apple Remote Desktop re-connects tells it to hide the screen (which... drops the VPN connection) and so on.

You can get out of this 'loop' - by unchecking the 'Lock computer screen while you control' (even while ARD is not connected) - and next time it 'sees' the client it won't re-lock the screen.

Just wondered if there's a setting somewhere in TunnelBlick that would stop it from dropping the VPN when the remote screen is locked like this?

Cheers.

I'm not sure I understand correctly: Is it the remote computer running Tunnelblick? If so, it might be that the "lock screen" procedure inactivates the user (like the "fast user switching" feature) and Tunnelblick, sensing that, disconnects. You can control that from the "Advanced" settings page: un-check the "Disconnect when user switches out" and "Reconnect when user switches in" checkboxes.

If that doesn't help, it would be helpful to know why Tunnelblick drops the session. The reason is probably in the Tunnelblick log for the session, but there also might be clues in the Console log.

Sorry, yes - Tunnelblick is running on the remote machine. The above sounds very likely (i.e. a 'locked screen' switches the user out). I don't have access to the other end at the moment, but I'll give that option change a try and report back.

Will do - I suspect the above settings will fix the problem (I thought it would be something like that I just didn't know where any settings to control it were!), but if not - I'll start trawling the logs and posting them,

Regards,

-Karl
