Hi all,

I have upgraded to macOS Sierra recently and now the Tunnelblick Icon is
missing in the menu bar (for right-click > connect, showing status etc.)

What can I do to get it back like before? Thanks

Maybe I should try a complete re-installation? Btw - how to obtain this and make sure that really ALL files off TB installation are deleted?

OS version 10.12.2 Tunnelblick version 3.7.0beta01 (build 4780) which I installed over the latest stable release (replaced App) Thanks and best regards Tobi

In macOS Sierra, the Tunnelblick icon is not placed near the Spotlight icon. Instead, macOS puts it to the left of all the other icons in the status bar that were active at the time Tunnelblick was launched. (The status bar is the right side of the menu bar.)

I think the problem you are having is that the icon is not where you expect it. And if you have many status bar icons (using iStat Menus, for example), the left-most ones may be hidden by the menu of whatever application is active. In that case, to expose as many as possible, click on Finder or some other application that has a small menu bar.

macOS Sierra lets you move the icons around, so you can easily move the Tunnelblick icon to be near the Spotlight icon if you wish: just hold down the Command key and click and drag the icon where you want it.

If that's not the problem – the Tunnelblick icon really isn't in the status bar at all, please post a screenshot of the full menu bar.

It's unlikely that reinstalling Tunnelblick would help because this isn't the type of problem that would usually be affected by a reinstallation. But to answer your question, the way to completely remove Tunnelblick from your system is to follow the instructions at Uninstalling Tunnelblick.

Hi, thanks for your quick reply!

Damn! Your hint was a good one.
It turned out that a non working icon from an application called "IPMenulet" (for showing your external IP in menu bar) has simply hidden the Tunnelblick icon. Uninstalled it (not workin anyway) and the icon is back.

So a classical case of "Layer 8 issue" or error in front of monitor ;)

Solved. BR, T.

Thanks – I had not heard "error in front of monitor" (EIFOM?). I like it because with standing desks, PEBCAK ("Problem Exists between Chair and Keyboard") doesn't always apply! But I suppose "layer 8 issue" is the most appropriate because Tunnelblick is a network-related application.

BTW: Tunnelblick shows your apparent public IP address when you are connected to a VPN.
