I can not establish a VPN connection or even ping my VPN server after my MacBook goes to sleep and wakes up.
I use 2 VPN connection simultaneously, one for internet access and another one for my company resources.
1st VPN connection settings:

2nd VPN connection settings:

In the configuration file remote is set using IP address, not the domain name therefore I doubt it is a DNS issue.
Any suggestion?

First, I recommend updating to Tunnelblick 4.0.0beta13, which fixes some problems in 3.8.8e.

Then you can try two things to solve the sleep/wake problem. I recommend trying each one separately, then both together if neither of them work alone:

1. In the OpenVPN configuration file of both configurations, remove or comment out the line with "persist-tun". (Comment out by inserting a "#" character at the start of the line.)

2. On the "Advanced" settings pages of both configurations, un-check the "Disconnect when computer goes to sleep" checkbox.

Should I also remove persist-key as well?

No.
