Well all, the time has come for me to make my departure to the TunnelBlick group email.
Over the years I have used TunnelBlick without fail for OpenVPN Connections. The product was rock solid and stable for me all the time I used outside of a few hiccups with macOS upgrades when big changes happened on the Apple Side.
I am not a developer, or even had to really dig under the hood, but had numerous interactions in helping solve issues with install and setup, but no where near like the other experts here. There is a great wealth of knowledge here in the group and I hope all continue to find solutions as needed.
As for me, I have just simply moved on. There other, faster, and IMHO more secure ways to implement a VPN Connection. Specifically tailscale, zerotier, netbird, Cloudfair warp and others. All provide some level of connectivity as most need.
Personally I moved to a zero trust model, so the connection has to be trusted first.
Also with the continued move to Carrier Grade NAT for many providers, other solutions are needed for "get back into the home lab" over traditional VPN Server type setups.
The slow or non-existent adoption of WireGuard and other newer protocols was part of my decision, and all of you are tied to what OpenVPN dribbles out in the way of updates.
I weathered the storm when switches were deprecated, some with no alternatives and constant warnings, to public keys and the rest of the stuff that is IMHO sprayed on security theater.
So I have move on, and much like the old Linksys blue box running for years, there is comfort in the old, but it is time for new. Its like longing for port 1723 knowing that it will likely never be used or needed again. Its still an empty hole from what used to be comfortable.
So I bid a farewell to all those that still must use a traditional VPN product and hope that some of the above mentioned solutions might also be on your radar for the future.
Thanks for all the help provided, given and a community that continues to care about free software.
