Unable to load net.tunnelblick.tun and/or net.tunnelblick.tap kexts in 5 tries

Hi I am using Tunnelblick 3.8.5a (build 5671)

MacOS Catalina 10.15.7

I get error when I start a TAP VPN:

I gave the permissions on privacy and policy settings menu for the app to run the TAP but still get the error:

Could not start OpenVPN (openvpnstart returned with status #247)

Contents of the openvpnstart log:

You may need to "clear the kext history". Take a look at the first (and only) answer at How to Remove All Traces of a Kext. (Tunnelblick's Team ID is "Z2SG5H3HC8", so you should use that.)

If that doesn't help, please post the diagnostic info obtained by following the instructions at Read Before You Post.

Hi,

I managed to remove the kexts as reported in the guide for the tunnelblick's TEAM ID.

I still get the error:

Please note in Security and privacy -> general the app doesn't ask me again to add the permission to the developer.

Can I edit any specific parameter in settings to increase logging? I set the log level to OpenVPN level 11 but same result

Your original post said:

The configuration file contains

     dev tun

which is for a TUN VPN.

But it also contains

     dev-node TAP-Gigante

which is for a TAP VPN. (And even if you do have a TAP VPN, this OpenVPN option is inappropriate on macOS.)

If you can, talk to however gave you your configuration file and have them fix this.

Otherwise:

• If this is a TUN VPN, try removing the line "dev-node TAP-Gigante".
• If this is a TAP VPN, try replacing "dev tun" with "dev tap".

You also need to change the settings for "Load Tun driver" and "Load Tap driver" to "Automatically" or "Never", not "Always".

You also need to remove the "net.sf.tuntaposx.tap" and "net.sf.tuntaposx.tun" kexts.
