I am on Tunnelblick 6.01 with MacOS Sonoma 14.7.4 running with OCLP.
I have been running perfectly ok until recently when all of a sudden Tunnelblick stopped working and freezes every time I click the menu.
I read about the issues when running with OCLP but was wondering if there is a workaround ... that works, or even better it this issue has been resolved or addressed someway?

I really love Tunnelblick and it has served me well for years just now I got in trouble all of a sudden and cannot make it work again. I tried a clean reinstall but no improvement.
Any advice?

Not anything encouraging. The root of the problem seems to be with OCLP, not Tunnelblick.

I've heard reports that you can use Tunnelblick – you just wait and the freeze eventually defrosts.

The problem is that Tunnelblick uses a certain macOS feature which, under OCLP, crashes. There is then a long delay while macOS generates a crash log. The feature is used, among other things, to generate the little boxes that appear when you hold the pointer over a control and which explain about that control. When you click for the first time on "VPN Details", the VPN Details window is created. It has dozens of these boxes, and they all need to be created when the window is created – even the boxes for controls on parts of the window that aren't going to be visible until you click (for example) on a tab. Each of these boxes causes the crash, then the delay. If there are 50 boxes and the crash report for each one takes ten seconds, that's 500 seconds (8 minutes and 20 seconds!) before the VPN Details window appears.

Unfortunately, even if you're willing to wait that out, some other windows that Tunnelblick displays have the same problem, including some windows notifying the user about errors. It isn't clear to me if those windows appear normally, are missing some of their content, or just don't appear.

The macOS Feature is used throughout Tunnelblick, so there's no easy way for us to get around the problem.

There is a discussion of this problem at https://github.com/Tunnelblick/Tunnelblick/issues/762

Hello,

Jonathan and I worked on this in 2024, and unfortunately, my OCLP also locks up when I search for the VPN details, but I can make connections and use Tunnelblick sessions that are already configured / established.

In the documentation, there are places to manually (without GUI) set the preferences, such as the name server, ssl version to use, and so forth.  So yes, an older computer using OCLP and TB can function, but one cannot bring up the details menu and easily adjust.

In late February, pradorocchi wrote he may have found the core issue (pardon the pun!) involving the video driver.  Maybe he has an update on how to modify for VPN Detail success.
