Hi. I have a Synology NAS with a VPN server installed.
I'm trying to set up a VPN service so that I can access my NAS folders when I am out of the office.

I'm not intelligent enough to understand how to do this. I don't want to open the AFP ports on my router, because that negates the need for VPN. My hope is to make my files accessible but secure.

I'm on a Synology DS412+ and Mac OS 10.8
Thanks for any help.

  Hi,

A web search of "Synology NAS openvpn tunnelblick" comes up with:

  Which has Tunnelblick instructions.

Have you tried the procedure in the above?

Hi everyone and thanks.
I have read all of these instructions. I'm afraid they don't solve my problem. Idk, maybe I'm asking too much of my system.
I want to be able to connect to my NAS' folders when outside of the office though OpenVPN, but I don't want all my traffic to go through Tunnelblick, just the traffic to the folders.

  Hi,

  From:

We see that the server side configuration line"

push "redirect-gateway def1"

Routes all traffic through the VPN.
Is this present in your server configuration?

Perhaps you could post to this list the server and client configuration files, with IP addresses and any sensitive informaition X'd out

Yes, Randy is right -- as it says in PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU POST:

If you are having a problem with Tunnelblick, please include the following with your question.
  • the contents of your configuration file;
  • the entire contents of the Tunnelblick log; and
  • the end of the Console log.
Be sure to X out any sensitive information such as server IP addresses.

It is best to open the "VPN Details…" window and click on the "Log" tab before doing a complete connect/disconnect cycle (if you can).

In Tunnelblick 3.3beta38 and higher, the "Copy Diagnostic Info to the Clipboard" button on the "Log" tab of the "Preferences" panel of the "VPN Details…" window will copy all of this to the Clipboard. Then you can paste it into an email or web form and edit out sensitive information.
