Hello everybody!

As a complete newbee to this, I am trying to get a vpn connection running. On my wife's macbook she was able to connect to her company's vpn server vie the built in OS X client. Since she upgraded to macOS Sierra, the PPTP protocol is no longer supported. I managed to get a connection running, using shimo. But this solution is based on a trial version, which will expire soon. Now I am desperately trying to do the same using tunnelblick, but I cannot manage to edit the config file correctly. Is there a possibility to convert the (exported) shimo.s4account file to a working tunnelblick.ovpn file? Do I need any more files or keys?

Thank you very much

Sorry, I don't know anything about Shimo other that the fact that it supports several different network protocols including but not limited to OpenVPN. Tunnelblick only supports OpenVPN.

If your wife's company has an OpenVPN server, then you should be able to connect to it using Tunnelblick. You should contact your wife's company's IT department to find out, and to find out how to connect to it (they should supply and OpenVPN "configuration" file and you can just drag/drop that file onto the Tunnelblick icon in the menu bar.)

You could try posting the shimo.s4account file (X out anything like usernames, passwords, certicates, or keys) and we can take a look, but I suspect that it does not use the OpenVPN protocol, so that probably can't be converted.

Okay, thank you! In fact I contacted the guy and he recommended to uninstall the upgrade to Sierra. I didn't agree and tried to figure it out myself. But I still can ask him to send me an openvpn config file. Anyway I am attaching the shimo file here, if you are interested.

As far as I can tell, the Shimo configuration you posted is a PPTP configuration. It has no OpenVPN configuration info.

My guess is that although Apple removed PPTP VPN driver from macOS Sierra, Shimo includes its own PPTP VPN driver and is using that.

Your wife's company didn't recommend using their OpenVPN server, which I assume means they don't have one. Unless they have an OpenVPN server, you can't use Tunnelblick.

Alright, thank you! Then they'll have to pay the Shimo fee, I guess! ;-)

Thank you and have a nice evening/day
