Hi, I'm having trouble adding a new configuration to Tunnelblick 3.8.4a (build 5601). Doing a Finder open, or drag and drop, results in a window that shows the error "TBRunAlertPanel returned an error"
I've tried reboots, quit & launching, enabling Admin mode in the preferences before launching, and obviously upgrading to the latest stable version.

The "TBRunAlertPanel returned an error" problem has persisted for years. It happens very rarely (it's been reported maybe ten times in as many years). "TBRunAlertPanel" is a wrapper for NSAlertPanel(), which is a fundamental part of macOS, so having it fail is an indication that something is wrong with macOS itself.
Since you have already tried normal computer restarts, the only other thing I can suggest other than reinstalling macOS is to boot into "safe mode" to clear the caches that macOS keeps of its internal state.
